Founded in 1984, Universal Ballet Company (UBC) is recognized as one of Korea’s leading classical ballet companies. The company is highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally and is actively engaged in overseas performances and cultural exchanges.

Artistic Director & Leadership

General Director
Julia H. Moon (Moon Hoon-sook)
Graduated from Sunhwa Arts School, The Royal Ballet School (UK), and the Princess Grace Academy (Monaco).
Served as a principal dancer with the Washington Ballet and became the founding prima ballerina of Universal Ballet in 1984.
In 1989, she became the first Asian dancer to perform the lead role in Giselle with the Kirov Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia. She has also guest-performed in Don Quixote and Swan Lake, significantly contributing to the international recognition of Korean ballet.
Appointed General Director of UBC in 1995, and since 2002, has been active as a full-fledged cultural leader and executive.

Seoul City Cultural Award (2018)

Currently serving as Chairperson of the Sunhwa Foundation for the Arts, overseeing Universal Ballet Company, Universal Art Center, and the Little Angels Art Troupe.

Audition Information (Number of Dancers, Age/Height, Video Requirements, etc.)

  • Number of Open Positions: No limit

  • Age: 18 years and older

  • Height: No restrictions

  • Submission Requirements:

    1. CV (Resume)

    2. Class video (barre, center, technique; female dancers must include pointe work, male dancers must include men's technique)

    3. Stage performance video (optional)
      Applicants must be classical ballet dancers.

Working Conditions (Rehearsals, Performance Fees, Other Provisions)

  • Rehearsal Schedule:

    • 11:00–12:15 Class

      • A Hall: Male dancers & principal class

      • B Hall: Female dancer class

    • 12:15–18:00 Performance rehearsals

    • Weekly schedules are announced in advance.

  • Performance Fees: According to company regulations

  • Pointe Shoes: Provided within a set limit through the costume department based on the type and quantity needed per dancer for each production

Notes for Guest Dancers:

  • Not all guest dancers are guaranteed performance opportunities.

  • Some may be cast frequently, while others may not perform for up to a year.
